The Kansas Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program is thrilled to launch the Kansas SRTS Academy in January 2027. The Academy will bring together aspiring SRTS champions from across the state who are passionate about making walking and biking to school safer. ·       Resources and funding: Understand the opportunities available for starting and sustaining local SRTS initiatives.

·       Hands-on learning: Apply practical tools and strategies to achieve your community’s goals.

·       Building relationships. Work alongside peers and build a network of individuals working toward a common cause.

·       Leadership and support: Receive personalized guidance from the Kansas SRTS team and connect with SRTS leaders across the state.

·       Advocates, parents, caregivers, students, or community members who lead or work on SRTS-related activities in their communities

Program Commitment

The program will run from January through September 2027. Participants must be willing to commit to the following:

·       Complete short “homework” assignments between workshops (about 1–3 hours each) that put each lesson into practice.

·       Meet one-on-one with the Kansas SRTS Coordinator three (3) times (1 hour each) to talk about your community’s SRTS goals, learn about the program, or receive assistance with assignments.

·       Fill out three (3) short online surveys (5–10 minutes each) to help us understand individual and community needs and improve the Academy program.

·       Attend the Walk Bike Roll Kansas Active Transportation Summit in Salina, KS, in person. On Tuesday, September 21, 2027, the day before the Summit, Academy participants will join a workshop to review lessons, practice fieldwork, and discuss the program.
